چکیده

In this work, 75 quality protein maize (QPM) inbred lines were evaluated for aluminum tolerance using a nutrient solution assay in laboratory and soil-based technique greenhouse tunnel. The experiment was set up completely randomized design with three replications the laboratory, complete block used greenhouse. Aluminum toxicity generated by amending 600 µM of sulfate (Al2 [SO4]3) Al2 [SO4]3 applied at rate 24 mg kg−1 soil experiment. Relative root length (RRL) hematoxylin staining (HS) scores to identify tolerant genotypes laboratory. According RRL, 94.7% 5.3% sensitive, while Hematoxylin classified 77.9% as tolerant, 22.1% sensitive. RRL HS presented very strong negative association (−0.788). method, experiments conducted twice successive summer seasons 2019 2020. Several growth traits measured most that exhibited also had similar screening technique. Genetic variability identified, revealing potentially useful donors genes breeding programs.

Effects of aluminum toxicity on maize (Zea mays L.) seedlings

Aluminum toxicity is one of the most deleterious factors for plant growth in acidic soils because over 50% of the world’s potentially arable lands are acidic. In recent years, considerable research has been conducted to understand the mechanisms of Al toxicity and tolerance in plants. This paper reviews the effects of different concentration of Al on plant shoot, root physiological parameters s...

Maize (Zea mays L.).

Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation is an effective method for introducing genes into maize. In this chapter, we describe a detailed protocol for genetic transformation of the maize genotype Hi II. Our starting plant material is immature embryos cocultivated with an Agrobacterium strain carrying a standard binary vector. In addition to step-by-step laboratory transformation proced...

Maize (Zea Mays L.) Growth and Yield Response to Ethephon Application under Water Stress Conditions

The aim of the present investigation was to study the growth, yield and yield components of maize (Zea mays L.) single cross 704 under different levels of irrigation, plant density, and ethephon in southern Iran where this particular crop has not yet been studied in detail. A field experiment was performed in the 2004 5 growing season at the experimental farm of the College of Agriculture, Shir...

CO(2) Compensation Concentration in Maize (Zea mays L.) Genotypes.

Heichel and Musgrave (4, 5) reported photosynthetic rates of maize genotypes ranging from 21 to 85 mg CO2 dmhr-' which were inversely associated with similar large differences in CO2 compensation concentration of from 9 to 25 plll. Since genotypic differences of the magnitude reported by Heichel and Musgrave would be of great value in breeding for increased photosynthetic efficiency, we conduct...
